
CASAT studes, teacher finish int’l course

Seven students and one instructor of the MMSU College of Aquatic Sciences and Applied Technology (CASAT) completed an international summer course offered by the Institut Pertanian Bogor (IPB) University in Indonesia.
Jadon Andrew Duyao, Jara Niña Asuncion, Ivierhoz Palubos, and Julia Katrina Bonota (BS Fisheries); Jamie Ann De Guzman, Noriel Joy Padrique, and Glory Fel Agtang (BS Marine Biology) took the third Digital Summer Course on Seafood Sustainability and Safety from June 30 to July 14.
Ms. Jhoanna Faye Jacinto, a fisheries instructor, also joined the students in the two-week summer course.
Offered by the IBP’s Department of Aquatic Product Technology, the course discussed the quality and safety of fishery products in Asia. It involved virtual lecture sessions as well as individual and group presentations.
The participants secured certificates and earned credits after completing the course. In a competition organized during the course, Padrique and company won 2nd place in the group presentation with their topic, “Microplastic in Fishery Product.” Her teammates in the presentation were Andrean Wangsa, Aliyah Balfas, Wiwi Suratmi, Elfrido Dewantara, Adyatma Eka Bawana, and Khairul Naim Bin Md Padzil who come from the other participating universities in Indonesia.
Meanwhile, Duyao and Asuncion earned additional credits after joining the on-the-job training on Post-Harvest Fisheries Area.
The summer course equipped the students and instructor in championing seafood sustainability and safety in Asia Pacific.
She also thanked the University administration for providing pocket Wi-Fi and load allowances.
Other participants in the summer course come from the universities in Tanzania, Thailand, United Kingdom, Italy, Vietnam, Malaysia, Pakistan, and Indonesia. (StratCom)
