MMSU envi scie prof speaks at 2025 International Carbon Neutrality Expert Course
Dr. Arlene Gonzales, an associate professor of the MMSU College of Agriculture, Food and Sustainable Development (CAFSD), served as one of the expert speakers in the International Carbon Neutrality Expert Course from June 23 to 25, held via Zoom.
Organized by the Mahidol University’s Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies, United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, and reputable universities on the continent, including MMSU, Dr. Gonzales discussed harnessing the power of nature for climate change mitigation and adaptation.
During the three-day virtual course, participants delved into understanding climate science, carbon management strategies, and sustainability practices from renowned speakers from various universities in Asia.
Participants of the international course were students and faculty members from Mahidol University’s partner universities from China, Japan, Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, Brunei, and Cambodia.
Dr. Virgilio Julius P. Manzano, Jr., MMSU president, expressed appreciation to Mahidol University for the ongoing partnership in sustainable development. “I hope more employees or students from the university will share their insights, ideas, and innovations on environmental sustainability in the future,” he said.
Earlier this year, MMSU, a major contributor to the international course, joined the Carbon Neutrality Campus Network, an international network of academic institutions focused on sustainability, a project by the
Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, Thailand's Mahidol University, and China's Shanghai Jiao Tong University. The course is one of the products resulting from this membership.
