Two faculty of the MMSU College of Teacher Education (CTE) bagged the engagement award in the digital scientific poster session during the virtual Luzon Regional Scientific Meeting (RSM) organized by the National Academy of Science and Technology (NAST) last May 11-12.

Dr. Mark R. Limon and Prof. John Paul C. Vallente won the special award for their scientific poster on “General Public’s Knowledge and Self-Reported Practices on the Disposal of Surgical Masks during COVID-19 Pandemic in the Philippines.”

Their research poster garnered the most number of combined comments and shares (totaling to 1,946) among the other 16 entries from the Regions I, III, IV-A, Cordillera Administrative Region, National Capital Region; and Mimaropa.

Besides their poster, two other national qualifiers from MMSU are Limon’s  “Food Safety Practices of Food Handlers at Home Engaged in Online Food Businesses during COVID-19 pandemic in the Philippines”; and the “Evaluation of Fish Offal Meal (FOM) and Duckweed Meal as Potential Alternative Protein Sources in Nile Tilapia Diets” by professors Jerome Binarao and Veronica Grande of the College of Aquatic Sciences and Applied Technology.

Themed “COVID-19 Pandemic: Learning from the Past, Coping with the Present, Moving to the Next,” the NAST accommodated various scientific posters via open submission call and selected the official entries based on three criteria: scientific merit (60%), relevance to the theme (20%), and poster effectivity (20%).

The NAST is a DOST-attached agency that serves as the country's premier recognition and advisory body on science and technology. (StratCom)
