The U.S. Embassy in the Philippines has recognized the MMSU American Corner (AC) Batac for its publication “AC Batac New Information Resource,” highlighting the latest collections available at the Corner. The recognition was awarded during the 2024 American Spaces Philippine Conference, held from October 2 to 4 at Saint Louis University, Baguio City.

With its theme, “Reimagining American Spaces: Using Audience Analysis for Program Development,” the annual conference brought together representatives from various American Corners across the Philippines. The event featured various sessions and workshops to share experiences, ideas, and strategies for improving American Spaces programs.

University Library System OIC Coordinator Ms. Maria Cristeta Llacuna and AC Program Director Ms. Charie Kaye Colar received the award on behalf of MMSU. Meanwhile, MMSU OIC President Dr. Prima Fe R. Franco expressed her gratitude for the recognition, underscoring the university's commitment to strengthening U.S.-Philippine relations.

“This recognition is a testament to the hard work of MMSU AC Batac and the strong relationship we’ve built with the U.S. Embassy over the years. We remain dedicated to expanding the services and programs that benefit our community, empowering the next generation of leaders,” Dr. Franco said.

The three-day conference featured speakers from the U.S. State Department, including Ms. Della Hareland, Director for Public Engagement at the U.S. Embassy in Manila; Ms. Marcy Carrel, Regional Public Engagement Specialist at the Office of American Spaces; faculty members and administrators from other colleges and universities.

Furthermore, the event highlighted a variety of sessions, covering topics such as the Embassy’s mission, goals, and objectives; American Spaces Philippines 2023 Report; American Spaces policy updates; Academy for Women Entrepreneurs; Embassy resources on international partnership and linkages; public affairs resources at the U.S. Embassy; implementation and revitalization of global partnership towards sustainable development goals; role of libraries in peace education and conflict resolution; creation of SMART goals; climate action and environmental protection for librarians; recruitment of volunteers in ACs; and consultations for FY25 proposals.

Participants also took part in workshops focusing on audience analysis, American Spaces program pillars, disaster preparedness planning, and designing effective programs for American Corners.

MMSU American Corner Batac continues to serve as a vital hub for intellectual and cultural enrichment in the region. It offers many resources, including books and multimedia materials. The Corner also hosts programs such as English language training, educational advising, and professional development workshops—initiatives that align with the U.S. Embassy’s mission to promote mutual understanding and cooperation between the United States and the Philippines.
