CTE instructor qualifies for US-funded OPEN Program

Affirming Mariano Marcos State University’s (MMSU) presence in global teacher education networks, Ms. Mayrose Bruno, faculty member of the College of Teacher Education (CTE), has qualified for the prestigious Online Professional English Network (OPEN) Program, a US Department of State–funded initiative for global English language educators.

The program offers high-quality professional development opportunities for English language educators worldwide and fosters stronger international teaching communities.

Ms. Bruno will be taking the Teaching English to Young Learners (TEYL) massive open online course (MOOC) in the Fall 2025 term, beginning September 23. Hosted by George Mason University, a leading public research university in Virginia, USA, the course will immerse participants in the field of TEYL, encouraging them to examine their own teaching contexts and refine their pedagogical approaches.

This milestone follows the recent achievement of Mr. Abril Ryan Dacanay, also from CTE, who completed his OPEN course on Professional Development for Teacher Trainers earlier this month.

These accomplishments not only highlight the dedication of MMSU faculty to continuous professional growth, but also reinforce the university’s expanding presence in international teacher education networks.

The OPEN Program, developed by the U.S. Department of State, partners with American partners with U.S. universities, institutions, and TESOL professionals to deliver openly licensed courses, content, and webinars. It aims to enhance teaching skills, promote mutual understanding, and strengthen a global community for English language educators.
