Reaping another major achievement, Mariano Marcos State University has shined anew in the UI Greenmetric World University Ranking 2023, placing 251st in the world. In the Philippines, MMSU ranks 1st among state universities and colleges (SUCs), and 2nd among the 22 Higher Education institutions (HEIs) in the Philippines that made it to this year’s list.

Initiated by the Universitas Indonesia in 2010, the UI Greenmetric World University Ranking evaluates green campus and environmental sustainability through a six-fold criteria.

In this year's edition, MMSU garnered an overall score of 7525. The university scored 1125 in setting and infrastructure, 1850 in energy and climate change, 1050 in waste, 650 in water, 1300 in transportation, and 1550 in education and research. MMSU scored highest in energy and climate change and; second highest in education and research.

In 2022, UI Greenmetric World University Rankings listed MMSU as 5th in the Philippines and 356th in the world. 

MMSU President Shirley C. Agrupis expressed delight with the university's higher rank this year, attributing the new record to the whole university community, the team which took charge of the application, and the strong support of the Commission on Higher Education for internationalization.
