Sutherland company trains MMSU student leaders

To develop effective and efficient young leaders, the Sutherland Global Services - Philippines and the Mariano Marcos State University - Office for Student Affairs and Services conducted a two-day leadership training for selected college students on March 9-10.

Eighteen student leaders from the University Student Council and college student councils, and two Sirmata editors participated in the training held at the International Room of the MMSU Center for Flexible Learning.

The training equipped the students on how to become brave, understanding, knowledgeable, and excellent leaders.

Mr. Victor Emmanuel Aguilar Jr., director - academe connect of the Sutherland Philippines, discussed emotional intelligence and “the science of becoming an influencer” to the student leaders. He also conducted workshops which enabled the participants to examine their management skills.

Aguilar said the activity is part of the company’s goal to look for potential applicants for its thousands of job offerings across the country.

Earlier this year, Sutherland and MMSU forged ties to conduct collaborative activities on student and faculty development, and possible employment of our graduates in the information technology and business process outsourcing programs of the company.

USC executive chairperson John Lloyd Suguitan thanked the private company for the training, saying that the rare opportunity helped them immensely in honing their leadership skills and preparing themselves in their desired careers.

Now on its third year, the leadership training dubbed Project Bukel (seed) is the brainchild of Dr. Jan Rich Guira, then chief of the student development unit and now OSAS director. It started in 2021 when college student affairs coordinators harmonized new normal activities to come up with a roadmap for student development. (HLY/JVBT/DPT, StratCom)
