Smart gives pocket wi-fi to MMSU
By DANIEL P. TAPAOAN, JR.
The Smart Communications, Inc. donated 60 units of pocket wi-fi on June 4 to the Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU) for distribution to students and faculty who struggle to access the internet.
The wi-fi donation is part of the telecommunications company’s Distance Learning Support Program for MMSU.
“We would like to partner with MMSU to make distance learning possible and accessible to its students and faculty members,” said Nina D. Escano, community consultant of Smart.
The Smart handed the tools to Prof. Wilben Christie R. Pagtaconan, director of the university’s Information and Technology Center.
Pagtaconan said the university and the company recognize that distance learning has become more significant nowadays since the education system has been severely affected by the current COVID-19 pandemic.
Aside from the wi-fi donation, the network also provided other partnership packages to MMSU: discounted internet devices for students and faculty; and, free infocast for University updates and announcements.
For her part, MMSU President Shirley C. Agrupis expressed that this effort from Smart further enriches the partnership between MMSU and the company. (StratCom)
