MMSU joins ASEAN climate smart livestock forum in Thailand

By Daniel Tapaoan, Jr.

Mr.Triel Felix, an animal science instructor of the MMSU College of Agriculture, Food, and Sustainable Development (CAFSD) Dingras campus, participated in the ASEAN Climate Smart Livestock Investors, Extension, and Science Forum held on June 3-4 in Bangkok, Thailand.

Felix was one of the 35 participants from ASEAN member countries and International Development and Cooperation partners, sponsored by the Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA) and the New Zealand Agricultural Greenhouse Gas Research Center.

The forum aimed to share and assess the emerging knowledge on climate-smart livestock policies and practices in the ASEAN region.

Felix noted that the insights from the forum are beneficial in increasing the effectiveness and integration of future climate-smart agriculture investment, and in identifying priority actions to accelerate practice change at scale in the region.

“The forum involved presentations and group discussions, and we tackled policy and institutional readiness, scaling up mitigation action, regional support initiatives, and investments in mitigation,” he shared.

Felix also expressed hope to reach out to other participating institutions when the university will come up with joint research proposals related to climate smart agriculture.

MMSU’s participation in the ASEAN forum was an offshoot to the visit of MMSU President Virgilio Julius P. Manzano, Jr. at SEARCA Headquarters in Los Baños, Laguna in May 2025. During the visit, the two institutions forged a five-year partnership that aims to strengthen collaboration in education, training, and research.
