DAR recognizes MMSU’s anti-hunger and poverty agenda

The Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) recognized MMSU as a valued ally in the implementation of  the Partnership Against Hunger and Poverty (PAHP) project.

DAR Secretary Conrado M. Estrella III presented the plaque of appreciation to Auxiliary Services Director Erick Jay de la Cruz, who represented MMSU President Virgilio Julius P. Manzano, Jr., during the awarding ceremony held at the Sequoia Hotel, Quezon City, on June 19.

DAR acknowledged the university’s ongoing support and initiatives to alleviate hunger through the PAHP project, specifically through the procurement of agri-products from the Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Organizations (ARBOs) by the Sirmata Multipurpose Cooperative.

Furthermore, the university was recognized for having the highest purchase volume among state universities and colleges from January to December 2024.

“This award means a lot to us, knowing that our small efforts are helping support ARBOs and smallholder farmers. This is just our way of contributing to the bigger goal of making sure every family has access to safe, healthy food,” Mr. de la Cruz said.

Joining Mr. de la Cruz in the event were MMSU Food Service Chief Norman Viernes and food services staff member Ms. Francy Visitacion.

Dr. Manzano expressed gratitude to DAR for the recognition and pledged to continue supporting communities, assisting small farmers, and ensuring food security in the province.

The PAHP project, launched in 2016 by DAR, aims to enhance food security and increase farm incomes by boosting small farm productivity, ensuring markets for products, and improving nutrition by providing a steady supply of affordable, nutritious food items to the community, especially children in daycare centers.
