MMSU undergoes ISO audit

MMSU submitted its systems and processes to the quality management system (QMS) audit, a final step toward the attainment of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 9001:2015 certification.

The scope of MMSU's bid for ISO 9001:2015 certification is the provision of higher and advanced education in instruction, research and extension in all its campuses.

Auditors Zyrah Kae Tungol and Ella Riza Nequinto are from the SOCOTEC Certification Philippines, Inc. (formerly AJA Registrars), an international major player in testing, inspection and certification. One of its services is to certify an organization's management system to international standards.

The first stage of ISO audit was held last November 25-29, and the second stage will be conducted on December 11-13. This involves examination of documents, interview sessions with the MMSU top management and process owners, location evaluation, and presentation of audit findings.

MMSU President Shirley C. Agrupis led the university’s journey toward this endeavor.

During the opening meeting at the MMSU Function Hall, Dr. Prima Fe R. Franco, vice president for academic affairs, represented the university president during the Stage 1 audit.

Dr. Franco said she is delighted that the university has reached the final stage for ISO certification after eight months of grueling preparations.

"This journey is a long and winding road, but we are committed to uphold our quality management system (QMS) so that we could optimize our mandated services," she said, adding that "we should satisfy the needs of our stakeholders and interested parties, and synergistically respond to our evolving needs and aspirations so that we can truly develop that human capital ready to embark into the challenging world."

Dr. Franco also urged the administrators, chiefs of offices, college secretaries and clerks in-charge of records, and members of the QMS core team and secretariat to "be one in this endeavor for the glory of God and for the sake of our stakeholders."

Meanwhile, the auditors said the benefits of ISO audit would extend far beyond the creation of efficient and effective solutions to gaps that were identified.

"These stages ensure that the MMSU is competitive and can deliver the highest quality and value to its internal and external stakeholders," they said.

Aside from the ISO Audit, the MMSU Extension Directorate also underwent its first surveillance audit on November 26 as part of its commitment to continuing improvement after it obtained the international accreditation in 2018.

Last April, MMSU received a training grant from the Government QMS. The QMS is one of the mandates of the government under Executive Order No. 605, s. 2017, which seeks to promote and enhance public sector performance through the adoption of international standards.
