Renewable energy systems tackled in seminar series held by MMSU NBERIC, GS
The Professional Science Masters in Renewable Energy Engineering (PSM-REE) program of the MMSU Graduate School, in partnership with the National Bioenergy Research and Innovation Center (NBERIC), is co-hosting a two-part graduate seminar series on August 6 and 13 at the NBERIC Conference room.
Attended by PSM-REE students both on-site and via Zoom, the seminar series served as a platform for graduate students to engage with industry practitioners and experts, deepen their understanding of renewable energy systems, and align their academic learning with practical insights from the field.
Dr. Bjorn Santos, Vice President for Resource Generation and Management and the PSM-REE coordinator, emphasized the significance of the event in helping graduate students become familiar with the current issues and concerns affecting the country’s energy industry. A panel of field experts led the discussions.
Serving as resource speaker for the first session, Mr. Ricardo E. Torres Jr., project manager of the Development for Renewable Energy Mainstreaming and Market Sustainability and a consultant of the United Nations Development Program, centered his discussion on topics such as the importance of the GS- PSM REE program in the Philippine Energy Industry; the exploration of policy, technology, and social justice; the roles of public and private energy institutions; and the Philippine electrification program.
This joint initiative supports the continuing efforts of the Graduate School and NBERIC to uphold innovation, industry-academe collaboration, and professional development among graduate students.
The MMSU's Professional Science Masters in Renewable Energy Engineering (PSM-REE) program started in 2017, and currently has 10 enrolled students for the first semester, AY 2025-2026, currently chaired by Prof. Willen Mark Manzanas.
