The U.S. Embassy in the Philippines has recognized American Corner Batac for its exemplary efforts in implementing Project BUKEL (Brave, Understanding, Knowledge and Effective Leaders) during the American Spaces Philippines Conference 2025 held on August 19-21 in Mandaue City, Cebu.

Said award was received by MMSU President Virgilio Julius P. Manzano, Jr., Director of University Library System and American Corner Maria Cristeta Llacuna, and AC Coordinator Charie Kaye Colar.

Project BUKEL, which aimed to nurture the next generation of visionaries, featured a Student Leadership Conference that gathered 180 youth leaders in a workshop focused on team management, leadership principles, and strategic planning for community-based initiatives. Organized by the University Student Council, the conference offered interactive sessions and collaborative activities designed to strengthen leadership skills among students.

According to Director Llacuna, the award shows the spirit of teamwork and leadership from the university officials and students toward the achievement of goals.

“The program’s success is really about leaders coming together. It happened because everyone shared their time, ideas, and support with open hearts. Each effort made a difference,” she added.
The recognition affirms American Corner Batac’s commitment to empowering the youth through practical expertise and result-oriented approaches, advancing its mission of inspiring positive social transformation and community development.

American Corners are part of the American Spaces program of the U.S. Department of State, located in libraries, universities, and partner institutions to serve as cultural and academic centers that promote mutual understanding between the United States and host countries.
