GS students and faculty trained on educational ‘Filipinnovation’

With its unwavering commitment to make response to current challenges and opportunities, the Mariano Marcos State University - Graduate School (MMSU - GS) convened its students and teachers for a training-workshop on educational ‘FilipInnovation’ on Saturday, May 6, at the University Center for Flexible Learning.

 

The Modernisasyon at Filip-INOBASYON sa Edukasyon (Modernization and Innovative Filipino Education) aimed to enhance participants’ leadership, competencies, skills, assessment methods, strategies, and innovativeness in providing quality education.

 

The activity was attended by faculty members and students of the PhD in Linguistics, PhD/MS in Rural Development, Doctor of Education, Masters of Education, Masters of Education in Language and Literature, MS in Biology, and Masters in Information Technology programs.

 

Lecturers included Dr. Marlowe Aquino, director for planning, who tackled strategic intervention in motivating learners. He focused on the significance of supportive learning environment and the strategies that motivate students to actively participate in class.

 

Dr. Aquino was joined by Mrs. Flenie Galicinao, Department of Education program supervisor, who discussed the emerging trends in K to 12 assessment innovation. She emphasized the importance of accepting more authentic kinds of assessment, such as performance-based evaluations, portfolios, and project-based assessments.

 

Dr. Nellie Salvador, GS extension coordinator, expressed her hopes that the training workshop will drive faculty and students to adopt cutting-edge and diverse teaching strategies to keep pushing for innovation in the education industry.

 

The training is part of the WAKE UP extension project of the MMSU – GS being spearheaded by Dr. Salvador. (WAKE UP means  Paggamit ng Wika sa mga aralin, Kultura at wastong Estruktura, paghusayin at pagyamanin; mga Uri at genre ng Panitikan.)

 

Other previous trainings conducted under WAKE UP were PAGTANGKILIK sa Wikang Filipino, PANANGSAPPUYOT ti Literatura Ilokana and PAGGALUGAD sa Panitikang Filipino.

 

MMSU President Shirley C. Agrupis lauded the GS headed by Dean Doreen Domingo, for its initiatives to advance quality education, and further urged them to keep aiming for academic excellence, one of the university’s ACHIEVE agenda.
