True to its commitment to enhancing teaching and learning excellence, the Mariano Marcos State University - Graduate School (MMSU - GS), convened over 200 teachers for a virtual training-workshop on Monday, February 27.

The Pagpapahusay sa Abilidad ng mga Guro sa Pagtuturo, Gabay sa Adhikain at Lalong Umaapaw at umiiGting na Aspirasyon at Determinasyon ng mga mag-aaral (PAGGALUGAD) sa panitikang Filipino trained teachers on writing techniques and genres, and producing Filipino literature learning materials.

It is part of the Paggamit ng Wika sa mga aralin, Kultura at wastong Estruktura, paghusayin at pagyamanin; mga Uri at genre ng Panitikan (WAKE UP) extension project of the MMSU-GS.

Dr. Nelie Salvador, GS extension coordinator and WAKE UP project leader, said a survey conducted in public and private schools in Ilocos Norte determined the focus and topics of the training-workshop. 

Lecturers included Dr. Alma Sierra and Dr. Janet Rivera, literature professors of the College of Arts and Sciences. They tackled Alimuom at Alingasngas sa Mundo ng Hiray [Rumors in the World of Literature] and Pagbabalik ng mga Alaala Tungo sa Pagsulat ng Malikhaing Di-Katha [Reminiscing the Memories Towards Writing Creative Non-Fiction], respectively.

They were joined by Mr. Joel B. Manuel, school principal of Bangui National High School, who presented Maigsing Kuwentong Ilokano [Ilocano Short Story].

Dr. Joel B. Lopez, schools division superintendent of the Department of Education - City of Batac, keynoted the event. He challenged the participants, saying “Bilang mga guro, tayo ang magbibigay ng gabay sa mga mag-aaral sa pamamagitan ng mahusay na abilidad natin sa pagtuturo ng panitikan” [As teachers, we should provide guidance to students through our proficiency in teaching literature].

The learning materials to be delivered by the participants will also be evaluated later on.

Other virtual workshops conducted under the project were the Paggawa ng mabisang pagsusulit [Construction of Effective Assessment]; Pagpapahusay sa Abilidad ng mga Guro sa pagtuturo Tungo Adhikain, haNGarin, KInabukasan, at LIkas na Kapakanan ng mga mag-aaral (PAGTANGKILIK) sa wikang Filipino [Enhancement of Teacher’s Ability in Teaching Towards Aspiration, Desire, Future and Welfare of Filipino language students]; and the PANangpatadem iti Abilidad dagiti maNGisursuro para iti Saririt, Arapaap, Pammateg iti Pamilia, Urnos, pagsaYaatan, ambisiOn ken Talugading dagiti agad-addal (PANANGSAPPUYOT) ti literatura Ilokana [Sharpen Teacher’s Ability Towards Intelligence, Dreams, Love of family, Orderliness, Benefits, Ambition, and Behavior of Ilocano literature students].
