10 posters finalists in NAST presentation

TEN RESEARCH posters of MMSU were finalists in the annual symposium of the National Academy of Science and Technology (NAST) in Manila on July 9-10.

The research papers where the posters were based were previously presented in annual commodity reviews and regional symposia conducted by MMSU and ILAARRDEC, respectively.

Each popularized poster was accompanied by a research paper. The following are the titles and the corresponding main authors of the posters which were given privilege among hundreds of researches of other institutions that vied for presentation:

“Identification of Wild Dioscorea from Northern Luzon” by Menisa Antonio from the project “Germplasm conservation, evaluation, and utilization of indigenous plant species” by the same author;

“Assessment of the spatio-temporal quality of the Quiaoit River watershed” by Floramante C. Pastor from the same paper by Nathaniel Alibuyog;

“Isolation and characterization of plant growth promoting Rhizobacteria from selected plant Rhizzospheres” by Dionisio S. Bucao from “Organic fertilizer and microbial for improved soil fertility in organic vegetable production enterprise” by the same author;

“Propagation techniques of FB Cachola breadfruit and MMSU SRO sweet jackfruit” by Marissa I. Atis from the project “Micropropagation of high value crops” by Prof. Maura Luisa Gabriel;

“Diseases and climate change in the Province of Ilocos Norte” by Erle Damaso from “Documentation and assessment of the climate related health impacts in the province” by the same author;

“Growth performance of sheep fed with Ipil-ipil and Madre de cacao leaves as supplements” by Benito Balneg from “Growth performance of sheep fed concentrates and UMMB” by Prof. Roseminda Sair;

“Combined effect of sonication and biological treatment on the release of fermentable sugars from banana stalks” by Ma. Concepcion Birginias from “Delignification, saccharification, and subsequent fermentation of sweet sorghum bagasse via chemo-bio-mechanical protocol” by Dr. Shirley C. Agrupis;

“Varietal evaluation of corn hybrids and open pollinated varieties in Region I” by Corazon A. Sabuco from “Varietal selection, maintenance, and seed production of glutinous corn” by Prof. Martina Tinguil;

“Improved tomato storage technology” by Maura Luisa S. Gabriel from “Post-harvest technology for major vegetable crops in the Ilocos” by the same author; and

“Distribution, phenology, and fruit yield potential of Bitaog in Ilocos Norte” by Joselito I. Rosario, from “Resource assessment of existing potential biofuel-source species in Region I” by the same author.

NAST is an attached agency of the DOST which recognizes outstanding achievements of Filipino researchers in science and technology and serves as reservoir of competent scientific and technological manpower for the country.
