University orientation program held

ABOUT 3,000 college freshmen and transferees in the Batac campus were gathered at the Covered Court, June 26, for the School Opening and Orientation Program spearheaded by the Student Services and Development (SSD) Office.

The program is held every year at the start of the academic year to welcome new students to their new community, orient them about university policies and services, and provide them with information useful for their adjustment and decision-making.

In her message, Dr. Prima Fe Franco, officer-in-charge of the Office of the President, thanked the students for considering the university as provider of their tertiary education. She vowed that MMSU will exert all efforts to provide them with the “right” learning environment in order for them to be globally competitive.

She encouraged them to do their best and added that they are in “good hands” because “at MMSU, we can make things happen”.

Meanwhile, Dr. Alegria Visaya, university and board of regents (BOR) secretary, introduced members of the BOR and administrative council as well as chiefs of offices, principals, and campus coordinators whom they can approach for help within stay in the university.

A video profile of MMSU was also shown to the new students to give them a glimpse of the instruction, research, extension, and business activities as well as of the achievements of the university.

The orientation activity started right after the opening program where Ms. Felina Isaac, university registrar, and Prof. Henedine Aguinaldo, SSD director, presented academic regulations and student services, respectively.

Other services that students can avail in the university were presented by: Dr. Lucena Felipe, university library services director; Dr. Leonisa Silvestre, medical services chief; Prof. Divina Cayabyab, scholarship and financial assistance program chief; Ms. Geraldeen Pascual, guidance program chief; and Prof. Vicente Trinidad, National Service Training Program coordinator.
