UNESCO Clubs PH accredits MMSU CAS-SC
By Edmar Delos Santos, STRATCOM Correspondent
The MMSU College of Arts and Sciences Student Council (CAS-SC) secured accreditation as part of the Clubs for UNESCO PH through the UNESCO National Commission of the Philippines (UNACOM) for 2024. The certification was conferred during the International Assembly of Youth for UNESCO (Y4U) held from November 29 to December 1, 2024, in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan.
After undergoing a rigorous five-level accreditation process, the CAS-SC was among 104 organizations and clubs nationwide recommended for accreditation, selected from 451 applicants.
The CAS-SC, represented by President Ronald Alimario, Vice President Maria Paula Rico, Secretary Humphrey Lexine Agcaoili, Public Information Officer Zechri Jacob Alcarez, and Adviser Mr. Jhon Sherwin Duran, received its certificate of accreditation.
With this membership, the CAS-SC seeks to align its initiatives with UNESCO Clubs’ programs, projects, and activities. These efforts will focus on quality education, advancing scientific knowledge, mobilizing sustainable development policies, addressing social and ethical challenges, nurturing cultural diversity, and fostering inclusive knowledge societies through information and communication.
Mr. Duran described this milestone as a crucial step in enhancing MMSU’s credibility and access to both national and international opportunities with UNESCO. “With this recognition, the council will be more empowered to lead advocacy initiatives in education, environmental sustainability, and cultural preservation while developing leadership and social responsibility skills,” he stated.
The UNACOM serves as the country’s leading agency in promoting UNESCO’s ideals, programs, and activities. Through the National Coordinating Body of UNESCO Clubs in the Philippines (NCBUCP), UNACOM annually provides Clubs for UNESCO accreditation to interested organizations from schools and communities.
