Stranded students receive cash

By JOHN VINCENT B. TORIBIO

One hundred fourteen MMSU students who were stuck in their dormitories due to the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) received 500 pesos each today.

Through the Office of Student Affairs and Services headed by Dr. Elizabeth Marfel Gagni, the university provided the students with the said assistance for their daily needs this week.

According to Dr. Gagni, OSAS resorted to provide the students with cash allowance for this week as the university’s supplier of goods has no available stocks as of this moment.

The total amount of 57,000 pesos mainly came from the donations of the faculty from the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) and College of Engineering (COE).

Mr. Jan Francis Javier, director for security services, handed out the said amount to the students who stay in the City of Batac and municipality of Currimao. Meanwhile, Mr. Robert Salvador and Engr. Jonas Paul Dela Cruz distributed to the students in Laoag City.

Since the start of the ECQ, the University has already closely monitored these students. OSAS launched the weekly food rationing program and also administers online counselling and psychosocial support for them.
