Stallions reap awards in 2018 ASCU-SN Olympics

MMSU Stallions brought home major awards at the close of the 2018 Association of State Colleges and Universities – Solid North (ASCU-SN) Olympics held at the Benguet State University, La Trinidad, Benguet last June 18-21.
 
The MMSU women’s team won the championship in basketball after exhibiting an unstoppable offense and formidable defense in all the game against its opponents. However, the team was not satisfied with the victory and still smashed their opposing teams in volleyball which landed them in third place after downing the Pangasinan State University Golden Lions in the semifinals.
 
The men’s volleyball team, meanwhile, emerged first runner-up.
 
In the individual categories, Cesar C. Arevalo brought home the championship in lawn tennis (men) and Ariel B. Delos Santos landed second in badminton. Mary Ann B. Gorospe also finished second runner-up in the marathon.
 
MMSU’s Pop Dance Team, composed of faculty and staff from the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS), College of Teacher Education (CTE), and Health and Wellness Services directorate, won in the competition. It is their second consecutive championship in the category.
 
In the search for Mr. and Ms. ASCU-SN 2018, Patria Anne Cielo A. Calixtro of the University Infirmary and Benedict Feland Dolores of CAS emerged as 3rd and 4th runners-up, respectively.
 
ASCU-SN is composed of 23 state universities and colleges in Regions I, II, III, and the Cordillera Administrative Region, which organizes sports and fitness event annually. The Association is also engaged in academic, research, and other activities of mutual benefit to its members. A total of 93 athletes comprised the MMSU delegation.
