THE MMSU Board of Regents, during its 77th regular meeting, Sept. 6, at the CHED Central Office in Pasig City, confirmed the awarding of Instructor I plantilla item on temporary status to 21 contractual faculty members from the various colleges of the university.

Their appointment is effective second semester of SY 2007-2008.  All of them have been serving the institution for one year and five months.

In a related development, the BOR also confirmed the request of the University Faculty and Academic Staff Selection and Promotion Board (UFASSPB) headed by Dr. Nancy GB. Balantac, VPAA, for the reclassification of 16 unfilled positions to 16 Instructor I items and the creation of another eight Instructor I items.

According to the UFASSPB, the request for the conversion of the 16 unfilled positions is prompted to provide items to qualified and deserving existing faculty members as well as prospective faculty-applicants.  They said that the Financial Management Division has advised them that the allocation for non-itemized positions under Personnel Services has already recorded negative balance due to the hiring of a big number of faculty members under contractual status, hence the need for the creation of Instructor I items.

The UFASSPB, likewise, said that offering faculty-applicants a sense of security in position and in remuneration compared to those offered by other higher education institutions is a good strategy in attracting the best applicants for instruction positions.
