MMSU posts 90% passing rate in ME board exam
EXCEPT for two, all examinees passed the October 2014 Mechanical Engineer’s Licensure Examination, hitting a 90 percent passing rate. All of them were first-time takers.
They were among the 2,960 passers out of the 3,841 hopefuls who took the test administered by the Professional Regulation Commission in Manila, Cebu, and Davao. The national passing rate was 77.06 percent.
The new mechanical engineers are: Billy Joe Abadilla, Cipriano Acio Jr., Christian Agres, Arnel Autriz, Omar Bagain Jr., Kenneth Carl Butay, Harris Boy Cabacungan, Clifford Catenza, Michael John Corpuz, Mark Rei Dalire, Jayson Disono, John Carlo Fontanilla, Reuben Kyle Gegajo, Kelly Gumayagay, Vincent Jamuyot, John Michael Lumbo, Gerald Pascual, and Roldan Quigao.
Engineer Nathaniel Ericson R. Mateo, COE’s ME department chair, said he is very proud because “we have always been above the national passing percentage”.
Over the years, MMSU has been at par with other well-known universities in Manila in terms of engineering board examination performance. This may be attributed to the college’s support to their graduates during review classes.
Meanwhile, COE has also produced a new Professional Mechanical Engineer in the person of Fredelito Cariaga Jr. (Class 2009) who took the PME board examination. Cariaga now works in the Middle East and is one of the two PMEs produced by MMSU. The first is Dennis Alejandro (Class 2000) who now works as senior consultant and head of the Makati Development Corporation.
To qualify as Professional Mechanical Engineer, a candidate must be holder of a BSME degree from a reputable school, has proper and recognized training in engineering, and had passed an examination prescribed by the PRC. He must also have a postgraduate practical work experience – a sufficient and relevant practical experience – in engineering work at a professional level for more than two years.
