MMSU hauls gold in accounting tilt
Sustaining MMSU’s supremacy in the field of accountancy, three students from the College of Business Economics and Accountancy (CBEA) won two championship awards in accounting quizzes at the close of the 14th Regional Mid-year Convention held Sept. 27-29 at Hotel Supreme in Baguio City.
Lester Acoba and Rowena Mhay Moneda, both taking up BS in Accountancy, were champions in the Regional Accounting and Finance Quiz (RAFQ) that covered topics on finance, financial management, and financial accounting. Acoba was also a finalist in the Cyber Accounting Genius that covered topics on basic accounting.
On the other hand, Jethro Vincent Espejo bagged the championship in the competition dubbed Council Academic Tilt Cup 2 (CAT Cup 2) that covered topics on Cost Accounting and Management Advisory Services. He also placed second in CAT Cup 5 that covered topics on advanced accounting, government accounting, and accounting for non-profit organizations.
Also, Christian Paul Salvatierra emerged first runner-up in CAT Cup 3 that covered topics on payroll accounting, business law, and taxation. In the same competition, his partner, Marck Anthony Ranga became one of the top ten finalists. In CAT Cup 1 which covered practical accounting 1 and theory of accounts, Joshua Salvador, another member of the team, was awarded fourth runner-up.
The convention is an annual activity of the members of the National Federation of Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants (NFJPIA) in Region 1 and CAR. It was attended by 18 government and private universities and colleges that offer BS in Accountancy courses.
“It was a tough competition between the competing schools because of the nature of the questions that were asked,” said Ms. Sarah C. Sanchez, the adviser and coach of the group.
“But we hurdled it because we have faith that we will bring home some of the major awards,” she beamed.
Prof. Lorna Olivia Salmasan, CBEA dean and Prof. Adrian Galapon, accountacy department chair, commended the winners for bringing honor to the university. (By Reynaldo E. Andres)
