MMSU, ATI hold seminar on climate change

MMSU together with the Agricultural Training Institute – Regional Training Center I staged KLIMA or Knowledge Exchange on Local Initiatives in Managing and Adapting to Climate Change at the University Training Center on June 18.  

A total of 175 participants composed of representatives of the various Municipal Agriculture Offices in Ilocos Norte, farmer leaders, women, students, faculty and staff of MMSU, and other development workers in the province, attended the seminar. It was conducted to provide local experts and practitioners an opportunity to share and learn different trends and practices on  disaster risk reduction management and climate change.  

Three experts were tapped as resource speakers  during the seminar.  Atty. Esperenza Caridad Orig, MMSU legal counsel, elaborated the legal mandates and initiatives on climate change adaptation and risk reduction management.  Dr. Nathaniel Alibuyog, vice President for research and extension, delivered a talk on understanding climate change impacts and vulnerabilities while Mr. Jayson Antonio, human resource management officer of LGU-Piddig,  shared their municipality’s project dubbed “Piddig Ang Galing Mo, Tuloy-tuloy and Pag-asenso” which won 1st Runner Up, Search  for Cleanest, Safest & Greenest Municipality sponsored by the Regional Development Council – National Economic Development Authority.  Also present during the seminar was Ms. Norma B.
