Building on its successful first run, the Innovation and Technology Directorate of Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU) held the second leg of its Innovation and Technology Caravan at SM City Laoag on October 21, 2025, advancing its mission to promote innovation, technology transfer, and research commercialization across Ilocos Norte.
The event gathered farmers, MSMEs, and local entrepreneurs from Laoag City and the municipalities of Vintar, Bacarra, Pasuquin, San Nicolas, and Badoc to introduce the university’s developed technologies, explore enterprise opportunities, and connect with business support institutions.
Key MMSU units and innovation centers presented programs on technology transfer, incubation, food innovation, product design, and bioenergy research, offering services to help entrepreneurs and researchers commercialize their innovations. Exhibits, product tastings, and test markets showcased MMSU’s technologies, while an open forum encouraged collaboration and discussions on potential partnerships.
Vice President for Administration and Finance Fides Bernardo Bitanga, delivering the message of MMSU President Virgilio Julius P. Manzano Jr., reaffirmed the university’s commitment to empowering local innovators and promoting inclusive growth.
“This event is a way for MMSU to extend its mission of transforming scientific knowledge and technological innovations into meaningful contributions that uplift lives and foster inclusive growth across the province,” he said.
Meanwhile, Prof. Armie C. Sabugo, representing MMSU Vice President for Research, Development, and Innovation Nathaniel Alibuyog, emphasized the university’s drive to link research with the evolving needs of communities.
The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) also expressed its continued support for MMSU’s innovation initiatives.
Through this event, MMSU continues to bridge research and community development, driving innovation, entrepreneurship, and sustainable livelihoods in Ilocos Norte and beyond.
