<P><FONT face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size=5><STRONG>MMSU team scores in reg’l stat quiz</STRONG></FONT></P>
TEAM MMSU emerged champion in the regional finals of the Statistics Quiz, tertiary level, held Oct. 16 at the National Economic Development Authority Regional Office-I in the City of San Fernando, La Union.
The Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State Unversity representing La Union settled as first-runner-up with Team MMSU nailing a two-point advantage over them in the last phase of the contest. The Computronix College in Pangasinan and the University of Northern Philippines in Vigan City landed as second and third runners-up, respectively.
Earlier, this group of college students composed of Vincent Luis (BS Math II), Christine Mae Bersalona, and Frances Angeline Calubaquib (BS Accountancy I) with Edgar M. Adina as coach bested four other teams from higher education institutions in Ilocos Norte during the Provincial Statistics Quiz held Oct. 5 at the Ilocos Norte Provincial Capitol. In that contest, Northern Christian College and Northwestern University settled for the second and third places, respectively.
Meanwhile, a team from the University Science High School-Batac composed of Mariden Abucay, Marionne Philbee Tejada, Gerald Buduan, Pol Gavino (alternate), and Jean Louis Damo (observer) also captured the championship in the same provincial contest.
They were accompanied by their coaches: Dr. Consolacion B. Bagayas and Edrian D. Saraos. No report as of this writing has reached News for the Week as to how they fared in the regional finals.
The contest was one of the highlights of the 17th National Statistics Month celebration. This year’s celebration with the theme “Empowering consumers through responsive energy statistics” gives importance on energy statistics in the country’s growth and development.
