The Mariano Marcos State University, through its Regional Agri-Aqua Innovation System Enhancement (RAISE) program, is holding an Institutional Re-Echo Training on Intellectual Property (IP) for faculty and students of the College of Engineering (COE) and the College of Computing and Information Sciences (CCIS) from September 2 to 5 at the Center for Flexible Learning Conference Hall.

Spearheaded by the MMSU Intellectual Property and Technology Business Management (MMSU-IPTBM) Office, the training carries the theme “Strengthening the Regional Intellectual Property and Technology Business Management in Ilocos under the RAISE Program Phase 2.” It is funded by the Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (DOST–PCAARRD).

The four-day training aims to promote and nurture innovation, protection, and responsible use of creative and technical outputs among researchers. Faculty members, together with junior and senior students, are participating on September 2-3 for COE and September 4-5 for CCIS.

Resource speakers include Engr. Maria Carmina Lorenzo, who discussed Introduction to Intellectual Property (IP) and Prior Art Search, and Specification Drafting; Engr. Rommel Villoria, who tackled X,Y, and A Documents, Invention Spotting, and Claim Drafting; and Engr. Artbellson Mamuri, who focused on Responding to Paper B.

Through the lectures and workshops, participants are expected to gain a deeper understanding of IP concepts, identify potential IP assets in their academic work, and familiarize themselves with legal, procedural, and institutional frameworks on IP creation and ownership rights.

MMSU Research director Dr. Dionisio Bucao serves as the RAISE program leader in Region 1 and the IPTBM project leader in MMSU.
