MMSU takes rehabilitation services closer to Vintar
By Jesslyn Keith Valite
To improve access to rehabilitation services for the people of Vintar, MMSU has partnered with LGU Vintar the Federation of Senior Citizens Associations of the Philippines (FSCAP) Vintar Chapter, and the Inclusive Learning Center of F. Camaquin Integrated School (FCIS) under the Department of Education (DepEd). This five-year partnership, facilitated by the MMSU College of Medicine (COM), Extension Directorate, and Physical Therapy Department, was formalized with the signing of a memorandum of agreement (MoA) on December 12 at the Vintar Municipal Hall.
The project dubbed "Re-Hub CARE Initiative (Create Accessible Rehabilitation Hubs to Empower Communities)," focuses on disability-inclusive development for children and elderly individuals, particularly those living with illnesses and disabilities. Furthermore, it aims to provide preventive, promotive, curative, and rehabilitative healthcare services to underserved groups, enhancing their quality of life while fostering a more inclusive community.
The agreement was signed by MMSU OIC-President Prima Fe R. Franco, Vintar Mayor Richard Degala, FCIS Principal Amiel Dexter Sarmiento, and FSCAP President Romillas Pascual. Vintar Vice Mayor Maribel Albano, COM Dean Policarpio Joves Jr., Extension Director Marilou Lucas, COM Extension Coordinator Henry Bolompo, Dr. Patrick James Peralta, and representatives from the LGU Vintar, FSCAP, and FCIS served as witnesses.
Through this partnership, MMSU will establish rehabilitation services within the community, with logistical, administrative, and safety support from LGU Vintar. FCIS will serve as one of the rehabilitation hubs, catering to children with special needs, illnesses, and disabilities. This collaboration will improve access to rehabilitation services while enhancing educational opportunities for these students. Meanwhile, FSCAP, which represents senior citizens, will host a satellite rehabilitation hub, enabling the project to effectively address the needs of the elderly.
Dr. Franco explained the project's potential to bring transformative change to the community, reaffirming MMSU’s commitment to serving vulnerable populations. "Our doctors and specialists stand ready as guardians of health, providing critical services to those who need them most," she said.
Mayor Degala expressed his gratitude for the partnership, emphasizing its importance to the community. “This initiative will greatly benefit our children and elderly, ensuring they receive the care they deserve,” he remarked.
Meanwhile, Dr. Bolompo, the project’s extension coordinator, envisions a sustainable model that will educate the community on disability awareness and self-care, fostering long-term health empowerment.
The Re-Hub CARE project marks a significant step forward in making lasting contributions to rehabilitation services and creating an inclusive community.
