MMSU spikers blank UNP netters, 3-0
SHOWING GUTS, resiliency and championship poise, the highly formed MMSU Spikers whitewashed the UNP netters as explosive and high-flying Arvin Bartolome, displayed spectacular moves with his sizzling sharp spikes, bombarding wallops, devastating attacks and indefensible placings to crush his blockers and secure a win over the netters during the nerve-wrecking and action-packed game in men’s volleyball.
In the opening rally, MMSU spikers were off to a hot start with aggressive ace player, Arvin Bartolome, unleashing his thundering cross-court spikes accompanied with the unblockable wallops of high-flying Carlo Anthony Cid to pulverize the netters and win the first encounter,25-17.
MMSU Coach Denzdy Santos decided to send Carlo Cid to the bench in the second set to give him a breather. The UNP netters took advantage of it and as a team, they set the blazing ball and executed plays highlighting down-the-line spikes as well as uncatchable quick sets and stun the spikers with a four-point lead. Immediately, coach Santos tapped Cid to substitute. The game went wild and crazy as Cid took charge and erased the four-point deficit through his spiking prowess and wrap the second set, 25-18.
In the third bout of the match, Cid got injured in his left arm after delivering a hard kill. This resulted to a sudden downfall of MMSU as the netters rallied an awesome 6-0 run but the MMSU spikers lifted their spirits after realizing that their team is strong enough to win despite their star player’s severe injury. Arvin Bartolome took over and showed their opponents that they could never be beaten with one member injured by releasing powerful spikes and blocking every assault of UNP netters.
\"There is unity in the group and we have an open communication to execute our game plans well. Indeed, fighting with all our hearts is still the best way to surpass the crossroads of every game,\" Arvin Bartolome emphasized. (Jeffrey Balicao)
