MMSU Language Center kicks off first Korean Language beginner course

By Chessa Pae Faustino, StratCom Correspondent

To enhance global competencies among faculty and students, MMSU Language Center launched its first-ever Korean Language beginner course on August 24 at the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) iHub.

The course has attracted nine CAS faculty members and 16 students from the AB English Language, AB Communication, BSBA Human Resource Management, and BS Information Technology programs.

Conducted every Saturday, the course will be delivered through innovative learning methods such as video on demand (VOD) and flipped learning innovation (FLI), specifically designed by Hancom Academy. VOD allows learners to access educational content via streaming videos, while FLI prioritizes active learning during class sessions by assigning preparatory materials to be viewed outside of class.

Furthermore, the curriculum was designed to cover essential aspects of the Korean Language, including phonology, vocabulary, grammar, and dialogues. Additionally, the primary instruction is provided by Hancom Academy, while a teacher-facilitator from the Language Center is assigned to oversee activities at the iHub.

This initiative was formalized through a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed by MMSU President Shirley C. Agrupis, Mr. Joseph Um, president of the Korean Chamber of Commerce Philippines, Inc. and Samdo e-Learning Corporation, and Mr. Kwang Hun-Lee, chief executive officer of Hancom Academy, represented by Mr. Oharm Lee, director of Hancom Academy in May 2024. A successful dry run course was also conducted in June 2024.
