SENATOR Edgardo J. Angara, Senate Finance Sub-committee “C” chair, has requested the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) for the release of funds for research services amounting to P5-M for the university.

The amount represents congressional initiative in the budget of the university under R.A. 9498 or the Fiscal Year 2008 General Appropriations Act.

Angara’s request has also been endorsed to DBM Secretary Rolando G. Andaya Jr. by Senate Committee on Finance Chairman Juan Ponce Enrile.

The budget department has asked the university to submit its work and financial plan to DBM-RO I for their evaluation and recommendation to the DBM Central Office.

In December last year, Angara’s committee in the Senate recognized the university as model for development for the rest of the SUC System in the country for its notable R&D activities, international linkages, and commercialization of innovations.  Such significant accomplishments moved the senator to initiate the release of the additional P5-M budget in MMSU’s 2008 budget.

At present, the university has 12 research outputs published in international journals; 30, disseminated or presented in international fora/conferences and 4, in national fora/conferences; 53 researches wit track records; and 16, externally-funded research projects in progress.
