WITH A near-perfect score of ninety seven percent in energy efficiency and conservation, MMSU was given a five-star rating by the Energy Audit Team (EAT) under the Office of the President of the Philippines following an inspection conducted by the latter on June 24.

The university got perfect scores in 19 of 20 items in the evaluation checklist, only faring poorly on the ‘use of CFL and slim type fluorescent lamps’ where it got a measly 1.6 percent out of the maximum 5.2 percent rating.

The MMSU Energy Austerity Program is in compliance with A.O. No. 126 mandating government agencies to realize savings of at least 10 percent. The university’s energy savings went as high as 20.02 percent in 2007 and 18.36 percent in 2008, amounting to a total of Php7.8M.

The MMSU Energy Committee is chaired by engineer Roger U. Binala, with engineers Romaric G. Ascaño, Edmund Edison A. Esteban, Thomas D. Ubiña, Wilson R. Duldulao, Nathaniel R. Mateo, Sharona Q. Barroga, and Mr. Ariel D. Gavino as members.
