The Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU) and the DOST 1 - Department of Science and Technology Regional Office No. 1 (DOST-RO1) formally signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on September 19 at the Center for Flexible Learning (CFL), sealing their official partnership for the 2025 National Science and Technology Week (NSTW) celebration.
MMSU President Virgilio Julius P. Manzano, Jr. and DOST-RO1 Regional Director Teresita Tabaog led the signing, along with MMSU VP for Research, Development, and Innovation Nathaniel Alibuyog, and DOST-Ilocos Norte Provincial Director Brian Rasco. The collaboration testifies to the longstanding partnership between the two institutions, focusing on the conduct of NSTW 2025 to be held in Laoag City, Ilocos Norte, from November 17 to 25.
The agreement reflects the shared commitment of both institutions in promoting science and technology through joint efforts in event promotion, stakeholder engagement, manpower mobilization, and logistical support.
Dr. Tabaog expressed gratitude to MMSU for the continued partnership, emphasizing the university’s vital role in advancing community development through research and innovation. “MMSU serves as one of DOST’s windows to the people through its commitment to research and innovation that greatly benefit the community. DOST will continue to support its initiatives with the aim of uplifting people’s lives in all sectors,” she said.
Dr. Manzano, for his part, assured the university’s constant support for the NSTW. “The university commits its sustained support to this endeavor. DOST has been our partner in delivering excellent services to our stakeholders, especially on research and development,” he stated.
The 2025 NSTW will officially open on November 18 at the Centennial Arena, with DOST Secretary Renato Solidum Jr. as guest of honor. He is also set to visit MMSU to inspect DOST-funded projects and facilities, including the garlic research initiative and the Coastal Engineering Research Center.
Present during the MoU signing were VP for Resource Generation and Management Bjorn Santos, VP for Planning and Strategic Foresight Mee Jay Domingo, VP for Administration and Finance Fides Bernardo Bitanga, and VP for Academic Affairs Aris Reynold Cajigal.
This year’s NSTW celebration will showcase technological breakthroughs and innovations through various activities, including scientific meetings, technical and investment forums, technology demonstrations, technical tours, competitions, and exhibits of cutting-edge technologies. The event aims to bring science and technology closer to the public while emphasizing their vital role in national development and community empowerment.
