<FONT size=5 verdana;\\=\"\"><FONT face=Verdana><STRONG><SPAN \\\\?\\\\?\\?? verdana;\\\\\\\\=\"\\\">MEP assigns leaders in sweet sorghum, pigeon pea programs</SPAN><BR \\\\?\\\\?\\?? verdana

PRESIDENT Miriam E. Pascua on April 14 designated some faculty members to occupy various positions in the research and development programs on sweet sorghum and pigeon pea in the university.

Dr. Heraldo Layaoen, VP for planning, development, and external linkages, was appointed program leader while engineer Samuel Franco was named point/focal person of the two programs.

For the R&D Program on Sweet Sorghum, the following were designated project leaders: Dr. Nathaniel Alibuyog - water management; Dr. Sixto Pascua Jr. - crop management and seed system; Prof. Martina Tinguil - varietal improvement; Dr. Thelma Layaoen - integrated pest management; engineer Samuel Franco - postharvest; Dr. Arnold Dumaoal - mechanization; Dr. Prima Fe Franco and Dr. Grace Urmeneta - fermentation and chemistry; Dr. Frederick Rodrigo - communication; Prof. Marilou Lucas - socio-economics; Prof. Buenaflora Asiao and Vinamay Grace Cabugon - product development.

For the R&D Program on Pigeon Pea, Fernando Sugui was appointed program leader. The following were named project leaders: Sugui - crop management and improvement and seed system; Dr. Thelma Layaoen - integrated pest management; Dr. Lorma Valera - product development; Emile Kathleen Aguilar - communication; and Dr. Ma. Victoria Domingo - socio-economics.

As leaders, they are tasked to formulate the R&D framework of the commodity where their respective disciplines fall, present their outputs in research reviews; and submit quarterly reports.

The said programs have expanded their scope thus the need for the creation of the two new groups to augment the team originally created to handle these programs.
