<B><P align=left><FONT face=Verdana size=5>Livelihood training-workshop conducted in jail</FONT></P></B>

TWENTY-SEVEN prisoners participated in a livelihood training-workshop conducted by the Extension Directorate at the Batac District Jail (BDJ), June 22-23. Supported by the Gender and Development Office and the Students in Free Enterprise, the activity aimed to equip the inmates with skills that will allow them to earn even under incarceration.

Prior to the skills training, Dr. Marivic M. Alimbuyuguen, extension director, discussed basic concepts on human rights while Ms. Criselda M. Balisacan, chief of the Regional Center on Poverty Studies, gave a lecture on values education.

Prof. Luis Vertido of the College of Industrial Technology facilitated the two-day workshop on bamboo weaving after engineer Jose Zafaralla discussed the e-bamboo technology developed by MMSU.

A group of shellcraft producers from Pagudpud also came to train the participants on accessories making.

The MMSU delegation was welcomed by BDJ Warden Herminigildo Espiritu who expressed his appreciation for the training which, he said, \"will allow the inmates to remain productive and uplift their self-esteem.\" He expressed hopes of a continued partnership between the BDJ and the university.
