TWO students from the Laboratory High School (LHS) in Laoag participated in the High School Parliamentary Debate Tournament of Champions held at the Willamette University, Oregon, USA, May 20-23.

In addition, eight other LHS students went to the tournament as observers. Prof. Froilan Alex Calixtro and Mr. Gorge Bagaoisan coached the team while Prof. Jeanette Dials served as adjudicator. Calixtro and Dials are assistant professors at LHS while Bagaoisan is an instructor at the Laboratory Elementary School.

Though the tournament aimed to gather the best debaters from around the world, MMSU was the only non-US school to turn up in the event participated in by eight schools from the states of Utah, Texas, Colorado, California, and Oregon.

Among the 22 debaters who participated in six rounds of debates were Fred Reinier Nagtalon, a third year student, and Jesusa Mae Aragon, fourth year. Nagtalon and Aragon ranked ninth and fourteenth, respectively.

The observers who joined the team were Melrose de la Cruz, Donna de la Cruz, Mae Aragon, Gwenevere Kay Gutierrez, Jennie Rose Manuel, Rome Kelvin Agodon, Jan Nicole Cuevas, Katrina Narvaez, and Gretta Shalou Galicinao.
