LHS Laoag’s video is jury’s favorite in int’l storytelling contest

Continuing the culture of excellence, the video entry of the MMSU Laboratory High School – Laoag was adjudged as Jury’s Favorite in the online international storytelling competition dubbed “Listening to Asia” last December 4.

The contest was sponsored by the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization - Regional Center for Quality Improvement of Teachers and Education Personnel in Language (SEAQIL).

The LHS’ entry was one of the four favorite videos chosen by the jury out of 161 entries from Southeast Asian countries. It was played during the culminating program of the competition.

In the video, Selena Emmanuelle B. Rabe and Jomel Dominic S. Lopez, both high school students, provided the viewers with a creative retelling of the local legend, The Legend of Paoay Lake. The students were guided by their coaches, Mr. Edward O. Almazan Jr. and Ms. Zinnia Jane M. Fabre.

“I am so proud of the students and the teachers. Despite the pandemic that we are experiencing, they still managed to join in the international competition and make the university proud,” said Dr. Bert A. Gamiao, principal.

As a center focusing on language education, SEAQIL initiated the competition to build a better cultural understanding across Southeast Asia through language, and to improve students’ 21st century competencies.

Themes were on local wisdom related to environment, humanity, religion, education, traditional culture, way of life, among others. – Edward O. Almazan, Jr., correspondent
