The alumni and students of the MMSU Laboratory High School (LHS) distributed food packs and grocery items to the households and frontliners as a support to them amid the health crisis.

The LHS Laoag Batch 1997 distributed one sack of rice, tray of egg, kilos of meat, facemasks, and other basic needs to each of the 169 households from the selected barangays in Laoag City and Paoay.

The recipients were 70 households from Brgy. Suba in Paoay; 32 households from Brgy. Talingaan in Laoag City; 67 households from Brgys. #13 and La Paz in the same city, and frontliners from Gawad Kalinga and MMSU Laoag campus.

The relief distribution in these areas was led by Ms. Ma. Esvimin Garo-Felipe, Ms. Mylene Rabe, and Mr. Erwin Suguitan. 

Also, the Grade 12 STEM Class of the LHS Batac campus distributed hygiene items to the MMSU frontliners. Items include soap, alcohol, toothpaste, brush, face towel, and tissue.

According to Ms. Mignon Cecilia S. Diego, Grade 12 adviser and guidance counselor, the initiative is part of their community service conducted every year. Among the beneficiaries of their project were the affected communities of the Taal Volcano eruption in January 2020.

Ms. Diego said that the items given to the frontliners were the remaining donations for the Taal eruption victims. Since these were not sent because of the lockdown, the LHS students decided to donate these to the frontliners of the university.

The LHS alumni and students are among the various groups and units from MMSU which are helping the communities cope with the pandemic. (StratCom)
