THE UNIVERSITY finally received from the Commission on Higher Education a grant of P2-M for the refurbishment of the Regional Science Teaching Center (RSTC) based at the College of Teacher Education.
The amount will be specifically used for the purchase of electronic equipment
The center provides enhancement trainings for science and mathematics teachers in the region. Initially, the trainings were funded by the Department of Science and Technology until it was limited to the support of the Department of Education (DepEd). Realizing its crucial role as a training center for science and mathematics teaching, the university maintained its operations with the cooperation of DepEd. It continues to train and re-train teachers in the said fields and has upgraded its approaches to teaching by delivering training programs through technology. It has been established as the e-Learning Center for Science and Mathematics Teaching.
With the CHED grant for its repair and improvement, RSTC is hoped to become a more functional training center for would-be teachers and in-service teachers in the region.
The CHED believes that there is a need to provide additional financial support to the university to upgrade its institutional capability and sustain development efforts toward meeting the challenges of producing the required manpower resources for national development.
Aside from MMSU, three other state universities received the grant. These are: Bicol University, Philippine Normal University, and Western Visayas State University.
The CTE was recently named Center of Excellence in Teacher Education by CHED.
