DEPED RO1 recognizes MMSU CTE for literacy innovation at 4th TEIs Convergence

The Mariano Marcos State University College of Teacher Education (CTE) received a Certificate of Recognition from the Department of Education Region I during the 4th Teacher Education Institutions (TEIs) Convergence held on August 27 at the National Educators Academy of the Philippines, City of San Fernando, La Union.


The award cited MMSU CTE’s commitment to integrating the subject “Teaching Beginning Reading” into the Teacher Education curriculum. The college was commended for its initiatives to strengthen early literacy instruction among pre-service teachers. The program was recognized as a “cornerstone for building strong educational foundations and inspiring future educators to champion literacy development.”


Representing MMSU and receiving the award were CTE Dean Dr. Ronald Candy Lasaten; Elementary Education Department Chair Dr. Gina Sylvia Gaoat; Human Movement and Arts Education Department Chair Riel Anne Batilo; Program Adviser of Bachelor of Technical-Vocational Teacher Education Asst. Prof. Alma Asuncion; Program Adviser of Bachelor of Early Childhood Education Jeremy Adrian Guiang; and Program Adviser of Bachelor of Secondary Education Asst. Prof. Kharen Vidad.


Expressing pride in the recognition, Dr. Lasaten remarked, “The integration of Teaching Reading in our curricula is a manifestation of MMSU-CTE’s commitment to uplift literacy and ensure our graduates are fully equipped to address foundational learning needs.”


The TEIs Convergence, organized by the Commission on Higher Education Regional Office I (CHED RO I) in partnership with the Department of Education and the Region I Teacher Advisory Council, served as a platform for teacher education institutions to collaborate, share innovative strategies, and align reforms with emerging educational needs.


This recognition upholds MMSU-CTE’s leadership in promoting literacy-oriented teacher education and its dedication to producing highly competent educators who will advance quality learning across the region and beyond.
