Having implemented high-impact activities that respond to students’ interests, the Student Council of the College of Health Sciences (CHS) and the Association of Tourism Management Students (ATOMS) emerged as university’s Best SC and academic organization for 2022.

Awarded during the Students’ Day on January 30 at the Teatro Ilocandia, the two garnered the highest scores in their respective categories, and were recognized as the ‘most adaptable’ in transitioning from the pandemic times to full in-person classes.

They shared the same recognition with the Taldiap Society of the College of Teacher Education which was hailed as Best Interest Club.

The CHS-Student Council conducts its annual blood-letting activity in partnership with the Mariano Marcos Memorial Hospital & Medical center, while the ATOMS’ major project, Project Alikaka, provided necessary interventions to empower the abused minors sheltered in Parola Santuwarya, Laoag City.  Taldiap Society conducted culture-oriented activities that celebrated and promoted Ilokano heritage and values through the use of digital tools.

Dr. Jan Rich A. Guira, director of the Office for Student Affairs and Services, said, “this year’s roster of best organizations is composed of brave and bold leaders for they are the generation that faced the challenges of the shift to face-to-face classes.”

Moreover, the MMSU Laboratory Elementary School  (LES) – Laoag also bagged awards such as Best Student Body Organization, its Araling Panlipunan Club as Best Academic Organization, and its Girl Scout of the Philippines as Best Interest Club. Similarly, the Laboratory High School - Student Body Government – Batac was hailed as Best Student Body Organization, its Young Explorer’s Club as best academic organization, and Girl Scout of the Philippines as Best Interest Club.

Further, over 100 student achievers who have won awards in various national and international tilts also received recognition during the Students’ Day awarding ceremony.

One of the most delighted is sophomore communication student Ryand Angelo Ugalde who received three awards during the event, having represented the university in various competitions.

In her speech, MMSU President Shirley C. Agrupis, congratulated all the Stallion students, saying, “your accomplishments immensely contribute in making MMSU known as a haven of excellent students in various fields.”

Aside from the awarding ceremony, various student activities spiced up this year’s MMSU foundation anniversary celebration. On the same day, a dance parade and lights show were conducted in the afternoon, gathering thousands of students on the streets of Batac campus.

A new OSAS initiative is the conduct of college-based events where student-participants were exposed to the distinct culture and practices in the various colleges through fun games, shows, and other activities. (HLY/JVBT/SCO,StratCom)
