CAF faculty members ram PRAISE awards
FACULTY MEMBERS of the College of Agriculture and Forestry grabbed all five individual citations in the MMSU Awards 2009 given annually by the Programs on Awards and Incentives for Service Excellence (PRAISE) Committee in consonance with the university’s celebration of its foundation anniversary.
The Best Organizational Unit Award went to the Extension Directorate.
The awards were given in a special program held Jan. 6 at the Teatro Ilocandia.
Dr. Artemio B. Alcoy, professor of agronomy, was cited Outstanding Teacher for his professional competence and community involvement. The Outstanding Researcher award, on the other hand, went to Dr. Gliceria S. Pascua, professor of plant breeding, for her fruit crop project particularly the MMSU Gold Carabao Mango and other commercially viable crops.
Agronomy professor Martina F. Tinguil received the Outstanding Extension Worker award for her dedicated service to the rice and corn farmers and for her commendable contributions to the success of her unit.
Mr. Orlando M. Ofilas, associate professor of agriculture, was given the Ulidan (Exemplary Behavior) Award for his simple but effective ways, for his commitment to his students, and for his down-to-earth work ethic.
On the other hand, animal science associate professor Roseminda R. Sair, was given the Takuat (Cost Economy Measure) Award for her feed formulation study and research. Her perseverance led to the manufacturing of MMSU of almost all of its animal feed requirements resulting in both monetary and manpower resource savings.
The Timpuyog (Best Organizational Unit) Award went to the Extension Directorate for its commendable work in training and education, applied communication, planning, technology demonstration and commercialization, and other development undertakings.
The awardees were evaluated based on the relevance and impact of contribution/work in the public interest in connection with and in relation to one’s official duty (50%); quality of contribution/work (25%); and cost-effectiveness of contribution/work (25%).
The PRAISE Committee was recently constituted pursuant to University President Memorandum No. 09-170. This is composed of Prof. Andres Tungpalan, Prof. Marcial Gabriel, Ms. Marcela Aison, Ms. Carlina Pascua, and Dr. Alegria Visaya as members, and Atty. Ramon Leaño as chairman.
