79 SDG-inclined research projects face in-house review
By Kimberly S. Miguel and Daniel P. Tapaoan, Jr.
To accelerate the achievement of sustainable development goals through research, Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU) gathered its faculty- and full-time researchers at the Center for Flexible Learning scheduled September 6-8 for this year’s Agency In-House Research Review (AIHRR).
The three-day annual AIHRR serves as avenue in reviewing the accomplishments and significant findings of completed and ongoing research projects from various colleges and the directorate.
Research director Bjorn Santos said this year’s 79 research projects, which are evaluated by university panel of experts, align with the United Nations SDGs, particularly on zero hunger, good health and well-being, quality education, gender equality, affordable and clean energy, peace, justice and strong institutions, and partnerships for the goals.
Of the number, 32 are completed studies while 47 are currently being implemented. These are further subdivided into six themes: 42 are under education, social sciences, humanities, culture and arts; 21 on agriculture, fisheries, forestry and natural resources, and environment; six on food technology; four each on health and wellness and business, management, engineering and industry; and two on interdisciplinary sciences (information, communication technology, and climate change). All are funded through the university’s general appropriations for research services, and grants-in-aid from partner funding agencies.
MMSU President Shirley C. Agrupis expressed delight with the growing interest of university personnel in research as evidenced by the increasing number and diversity of research projects in the university. She hopes these studies will translate into publications, patents, industry engagement, and impact on policy.
“The tasks that lie ahead of us do not become easier, but I am sure that through our collective hard work and perseverance, we will be able to remain as a university which does not only educate, but transforms and empowers the next generation of Filipinos,” PSCA mused.
In June this year, the University also reviewed 50 research proposals which could be approved for implementation and granted with funding through the university’s general appropriations for research services. (HLY/JVBT/DPTJ, StratCom)
