Seventy-four research papers and 41 proposals were evaluated during the university in-house review conducted by the Research and Development Directorate, June 1-5 at the University Training Center.

The research papers were comprised of reports from 45 General Appropriations Act-funded research outputs, 21 externally-funded projects, 4 faculty graduate theses, and 4 college researches.

From these, 40 papers were recommended for presentation in the different commodity reviews of ILARRDEC and other external reviews. Best presenters and best papers were also selected.

The review proper was divided into three sessions: agriculture; industry and energy and information technology; fisheries, forestry, biodiversity and health; and education, economics, and social sciences. Twelve seasoned researchers and experts from MMSU, and one each from the Agricultural Training Institute and the National Tobacco Administration served as evaluators.

Awarded as best papers were: \"Micropropagation of High-Value Crops\" by Maura Luisa S. Gabriel, AJ Badar, and MI Atis; \"Correlates of food safety practices of the chichacorn industry in Ilocos Norte\" by FAP Acebedo, CP Abadilla, MP Domingo, BR Asiao and ZH Esteban; \"Predicting the hydraulic response of the Laoag River basin to climate change using the SWAT model\" by Dr. Nathaniel R. Alibuyog; \"Capacity Development in Adaptive Water Management: Experiences and lessons learned at farmer’s water school in Northern Philippines\" by Carlos M. Pascual, et.al; and \"Impact of the barangay solar Electrification Project in Northern Philippines\" by Carmelo J. Esteban, et.al.

Chosen as best presenters were Maura Luisa S. Gabriel, Dr. Florelio B. Abenes, Prof. Andres Y. Tungpalan, Dr. Nathaniel R. Alibuyog, Dr. Doreen Domingo, and Dr. Joselito L. Lolinco.

Conducted annually by the Research and Development Directorate, the in-house review serves as a quality control mechanism for the directorate in endorsing research papers for external research reviews, scientific conferences, and related gatherings.

It aims to evaluate completed, on-going, and new research and development projects particularly with regard to the attainment of objectives and adherence to the approved program of activities. It is meant to identify problems met in project implementation to which specific courses of action are recommended.
