5 MMSU PT students in Japan clinical immersion
By Jesslyn Keith Valite
Five physical therapy students from MMSU are participating in a two-week clinical immersion program at Seirei Christopher University (SCU) in Hamamatsu City, Japan from October 29 to November 2 as part of the student exchange program initiative between the two universities.
The MMSU delegation includes students Hannah Keziah Agngarayngay, Esther Joy Bagaoisan, Kylie Jane Espino, Carmel Claire Nicolas, and Jenny Piga. They are accompanied by Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Center chief Mary Audrey Viloria.
The immersion kicked off with a formal orientation where SCU President Dr. Shohei Ohgi welcomed the students. He was joined by Dr. Shingu Naohito, dean of the School of Rehabilitation Sciences, Dr. Shinichi Arizono, head of the Department of Physical Therapy, and other faculty members of SCU's International Office.
During their stay, the MMSU students will engage in hands-on training using SCU’s state-of-the-art facilities, gaining practical skills in various aspects of physical therapy. This program not only provides clinical experience but also promotes cultural exchange and strengthens academic collaboration between the two institutions.
“This immersion will help our students broaden their perspectives on patient care, ultimately shaping them into more effective healthcare professionals,” Ms. Viloria stated. She will also deliver a lecture on MMSU’s physical therapy program and present a joint research proposal developed through the partnership between MMSU and SCU.
Meanwhile, Ms. Piga, one of the students, highlighted how the program is enhancing her understanding of rehabilitation techniques. “This opportunity allows me to explore various patient care approaches, preparing me to become a more versatile and competent healthcare practitioner,” she said.
SCU and MMSU signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in 2021 to strengthen health sciences education and research, support the exchange of faculty and scholars, share academic resources, and academic publications.
