<font style="font-weight: bold;" size="5">3 SHS students to compete in nat’l sci Olympiad <br></font>
A TEAM composed of three students from the University High School has been qualified as national finalist to the 2007 Philippine Society of Youth Science Clubs (PSYSC) Science Olympiad on Sept. 29 at the University of the Philippines National Institute of Science and Mathematics Education Development in Diliman, Quezon City.
John Lois Padayao, Gerald Angelo Buduan, and Jean Louise Damo garnered the fourth highest points for the Luzon Island Division (Bracket II-HighSchool) finals which qualified them for the national competition. With them in the said division are the: School of Saint Anthony, Tarlac National High School, Philippine Science High School-Bicol Regional Campus, and University of the Philippines Integrated School, in that order. Each of the three major islands in the Philippines is represented by five high school teams.
The national finals will have two parts: a theoretical oral quiz which shall compose 70 percent of the total score and a practical examination, 30 percent.
National winners will receive certificates of recognition, trophy for the school, gold medallions for each team member, cash prize of P10,000, and free registration to the 2007 Children’s Science Interactive Workshop or to the 2008 National Youth Science, Technology, and Environment Summer Camp.
The PSYSC is a non-stock, non-profit, non-government organization of youth science clubs with affiliates nationwide. The said national competition is conducted by the PSYSC to commemorate Science Month which runs with the theme: “Quantum Leap: New Generation Science Clubbing”.
September has been declared as National Science Club Month by virtue of Presidential Proclamation No. 264.
