Zonta provides scholarships for women
THE ZONTA Club of Ilocos Norte (ZCIN), through the Lolita Kho Hernandez Educational Foundation, is sponsoring the tuition and miscellaneous fees of five students, starting first semester of AY 2010-2011.
A memorandum of agreement was signed by ZCIN represented by its president, Editha P. Medina, and MMSU, represented by President Miriam E. Pascua, May 14, at Ferdinand E. Marcos Hall Conference Room.
To qualify for the scholarship, an incoming freshman must have a high school grade average of 85 percent, and must maintain a general weighted average of 2.5. It is open only to female students.
Founded in 1919, Zonta International is a global organization of executives and professionals working together to advance the status of women worldwide through service and advocacy. With more than 31,000 members belonging to more than 1,200 Zonta Clubs in 66 countries and geographic areas, Zontians all over the world volunteer their time, talents, and support to local and international service projects as well as scholarship programs.
The late Lolita Kho Hernandez was a former president of ZCIN, and also served as member of the board of the Philippine National Red Cross-Ilocos Norte chapter.. She passed away in January.
In related news, the International Ilocano Association is (IIA) providing three BSBA Entrepreneurship students financial assistance amounting to P2,000 per semester. The IIA is funded by Dr. David C. Guillermo, 82, a native of Solsona, who now resides in Los Angeles, California, U.S.A.
