As part of promoting responsible pet ownership and improving the health and welfare of dogs and cats, the MMSU - College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) conducted the “FUR the Win-Pet-Inclusive Fun Run and PAWsitive Health Caravan,” on October 18 at the University Covered Court.
Co-organized by the CVM Student Council, MMSU Veterinary Medicine Students’ Society, and the University Student Council, in partnership with the sponsors, Batac City Mayor Markee Chua, Laoag City Veterinary Office, and Batac City Veterinary Office, the activity featured a pet inclusive fun run joined by 110 participants. This event is an initiative of University President Virgiilio Julius P. Manzano, Jr., which promotes dynamic and holistic well-being for pets and their owners.
Moreover, MMSU-CVM successfully served 115 clients who availed of free neutering, anti-rabies vaccination, and deworming services.
In his message, Dr. Manzano commended the organizers for leading the initiative and looked forward to its continuity for the health and wellness of both pets and owners. Dr. Manzano also encouraged the CVM students to continue excelling in their education to become future top licensed veterinarians.
Meanwhile, CVM Dean Melvin Bagot expressed his gratitude for the success of the activity. “We are deeply grateful to MMSU, under the active leadership of President Virgilio Julius P. Manzano Jr., as well as to our sponsors and all the veterinarians who made this event possible,” he said, adding that the activity also supports the province’s Zero Rabies in Ilocos Norte campaign.
This initiative by the MMSU-CVM aims to foster public awareness on animal health, welfare, and community safety, while strengthening bonds between pet owners and their animals. It also aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals Nos. 3 (Good Health and Wellbeing) 4 (Quality Education), 15 (Life on Land), and 17 (Partnership for the Goals).
