Student Regent attends leadership symposium in Thailand

Student Regent Reindel Owen E.  Salvador attended the 2nd University Scholars Leadership Symposium held in Pattaya, Thailand on Aug. 1-7. Sponsored by the Humanitarian Affairs London, the symposium aimed to increase the awareness of student leaders from all over the world on humanitarian issues. Delegates were engaged in an interactive discussion of the world’s humanitarian problems such as sex slavery, unemployment, human trafficking, child abandonment,  and many others. Speakers were personalities who have fought the odds brought about by these humanitarian problems and have chosen a lifeline rescuing victims of those problems.

Pattaya City was a very relevant venue because it is said to be the country’s sex capital where there is rampant prostitution. Delegates were also given the opportunity to spend time with children with special needs at the Fr. Ray Foundation located in the city. They were also made to experience the use of crutches and wheelchairs which they found very hard to do but it made them better understand and realize the conditions of people with disabilities.

Apart from these learning journeys, Salvador found new friends and established new meaningful relationships with other delegates from different cultural make-ups. He came to better appreciate cultural diversity and that it is great to be with people with at least a commonality – the passion to serve people.

Humanitarian Affairs London is an organisation whose mission is to provide youths the opportunity to engage in humanitarian service, strengthen their awareness of diverse cultures, and to develop a lifelong commitment to helping others by participating in relief efforts to benefit impoverished communities throughout the World.
