SCA elected as ASCU-SN Vice President; MMSU to host 2019 Olympics

MMSU President Shirley C. Agrupis was elected Vice President of the Association of State Universities and Colleges – Solid North (ASCU-SN) during the Presidents’ Meeting on Tuesday, June 19.

The meeting coincided with the 2018 staging of the ASCU-SN Summer Olympics at Benguet State University in La Trinidad, Benguet on June 18-21.

ASCU-SN is composed of 23 state universities and colleges in Regions I, II, III, and the Cordillera Administrative Region.

As the ASCU-SN Vice President, Dr. Agrupis is expected to take over as President upon the end of the term of the current President, Dr. Eduardo T. Bagtang of Kalinga State University.

In the same meeting, MMSU was selected as host and venue for the 2019 Summer Olympics.

Dr. Agrupis said she was overwhelmed by the support shown by other SUC presidents to her nomination. She considers both her election as vice president and MMSU’s selection as host as a challenge to the university community.

“We now have more reasons to level up our sports and fitness program and facilities,” she said, adding that the university should start preparing for the event, scheduled on June 19-21 next year.

The Olympics is an annual sports and fitness event participated in by faculty and staff of ASCU-SN’s member-institutions.

This year, 93 athletes comprise the MMSU delegation.

Aside from sports and cultural events, ASCU-SN is also engaged in academic, research, and other activities of mutual benefit to its members.
